grid breakdown for empty fields

Reported by Jon Seidel | August 18th, 2011 @ 07:21 PM

I've created a Rails helper which allows me to use the same forms for new/edit and show. When using new/edit and form input fields, everything displays correctly.

However, when using a show view, anytime there is an empty field, the div/grid spacing gets lost and things are all squished together. I've checked the html and all the the class="span-nn" settings are there.

Using Firebug, I went in and edited several of the empty fields that were not properly grid-spaced and as soon as I added even one non-blank character, the spacing "jumped" for that field to match the expected grid layout.

Is this a browser issue? I'm seeing this on Linux (Firefox & Chrome) and Windows.

I'm using Blueprint 1.0

I solved the problem by adding a non-breaking space code to each field that had a nil (blank) value and now the grid spacing works perfectly.
